Sanney, sorry about your HD. Take it as a warning to get a backup drive. They're cheap these days. Also, you can always try the freezer trick to revive it: put HD in freezer bag, seal, freeze at least 2 hours/overnight, hook up to pc and try to retrieve data.
http://www.trap17.com/index.php/hard-drive-freezer-trick_t26193.html

I also was thinking, "I hope it's not a Chinese guy" for the same exact reasons as you. And even though I was somewhat relieved (if you can call it that) that it was not a Chinese person, I knew Americans would sooner than later not distinguish the difference between Koreans and Chinese (and Filipinos and Japanese, etc.); that we'd all just be lumped together as those "Asians."

I mistakenly connected my Ipod Shuffle to our desktop which did not have Itunes loaded. I just wanted to recharge the thing but, little did I know that connecting an Ipod to a machine w/o Itunes already loaded would wipe out the contents of the Ipod. See, I had been using my laptop to maintain my Ipod.

I discovered this stupid-user-technical-error as I was trying to enjoy some music while I was waiting to watch the San Fran Intl Film Festival screening of The Heavenly Kings this past Sunday. There were no tunes to past the time with and I thought my Ipod was broken. Silly me. Well, I did get to hug Daniel Wu, so everything was fine.

I didn't want the shooter to be Chinese either but it doesn't matter that much because Americans don't distinguish between Chinese/Korean/Japanese. We're all Asian to them.

Yeah, I was outraged at the Stephen Hunter article mainly because he did not even have the guts to go with his whole violence-caused-by-violent-films hypothesis and, instead, just gave instances that were kinda similar.

AND to make matters worse, the same film critic (sic) wrote that recent sniper movie with Mark Wahlberg!

"Hey man, maybe the VT kid saw *your* movie NOT Old Boy!"

But, I am old enough to remember when this happened with Taxi Driver and Hinckley in 1981.

Media is lazy; America has too many easy-to-access guns; the kid was troubled; bad things happen. Life is messy and there is no easy explanation for this kind of thing ever.

Any thoughts on the fact that Tears of the Black Tiger is finally on legal region 1 DVD (after Miramax had it on the shelf for 6 years, Magnolia films bought it and released it on DVD here in the States).

I know it's not a HK film.

I was a bit disappointed in the film -- didn't seem to live up to the hype of the 6 years it was held hostage AND, having seen the director's followup Citizen Dog, I seem to prefer that film's more human but equally stylish approach a bit more.

Any thoughts on A Battle of Wits? I'm still mulling it over -- certainly many things it did quite well.

Cheers,
Glenn

Sanney, if you plug in your iPod on the computer, do this first. Open iTunes before plugging in and make sure it's fully loaded up. Then when you plug in your iPod the moment that it starts loading, get ready to cancel the sync-ing by clicking the (x) on the right of the top display where it usually shows the track playing. Then go to your iPod preferences in iTunes, and switch off automatic syncing. If you do all of this early enough (you'll have a few seconds, so it's not like a split second thing), iTunes won't delete your tracks. Then go to http://versiontracker.com and search for iPod to find some software to download your tracks off your iPod. There are some more complicated tricks to get your ratings and album art off as well, but I've never tried to do that on a PC (I have a Mac version).

Anyway, hope that helps. Get in touch if you need more info!

Lest

DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR IPOD INTO YOUR NEW HARD DRIVE. IT WILL SYNC AND DELETE ALL YOUR SONGS AND PLAYLISTS!!!!! Go to www.thelittleappfactory.com/software/ipodrip.php and download iPodRip. It'll help you get your songs and lists back.
