Forgot to mention - I may sound like I am highly critical of them but its nitpicking. As a musical act they are quite good audience pleasers and most of the music isn't bad at all. Any of the 12GB live concert DVDs (Miracle Live and Live at Budokan especially) are worth checking out. I've seen them perform live once.

"Chungking Christmas" is a superior album to the "12 Girls of Christmas." I picked mine up over 10 years ago in a Tower Records store in Northern California for about $10. What it has that the 12 Girls band lacks is Chinese percussion --the pots and pans section and the high energy performances is what makes this album a hell of a lot more fun and spirited than the Girl's.

Speaking of the 12 Girls, I'm happy that they are enough of a commercial success to be raking in the $$$. Their musicianship isn't too bad -- they play well enough, but some of their moves and howmanship can stand some improvement - they clearly come across as Chinese trying to emulate Western hipness. They need better wardrobe and choreography. The camera work, stage design and lighting on their live performance DVDs are also rather uneven. They are actually best at doing traditional Chinese folk & ethnic minority music(such as Wang Luo Bin) instead of sinifying and jazzing up Western or Japanese stuff.

I forgot to mention that Olivia Olson does a great rendition of "All I Want For Christmas" in Love Actually.

I couldn't believe that it was done first by Mariah Carey too. I agree that it feels like it's been around for ages.

I've never heard of Twelve Girls Band before but now I'm intrigued.

My favorite Xmas movie is Love Actually. I don't have a favorite HK Xmas movie because there aren't any! Can you think of one?

Merry Xmas!

well, for what it's worth, Shu Qi is tagged a porn star on wikipedia as well.

yeah, her early career stuff is not even as raunchy as the softcore on Cinemax on American cable.

happy holidays as well!
