I saw the movie this weekend and I agree with what you said about Michelle Yeoh's opening scenes. She's smoking hot. Bill Simmons has to add her to the Diane Lane All-Stars because she's still getting it done at 46.

The poor response to the film has convinced me that I shouldn't waste my time and money on seeing it at the cinema, but I'll be getting it on DVD at some point purely for the Michelle Yeoh factor. Good to hear she's great as usual.

Sanney,

If you saw the first two movies, you'd notice the dropoff in the third one. Maria Bello is a crap replacement for Rachel Weisz.

Isabella is overrated. In his review, Kozo said that she looks "lost" in the film and I agree. I'd go further and say that she looks overwhelmed. She's lucky she's got the billionaire's son boyfriend because she's not getting rich through a Hollywood film career.

Cheers,
RC

Hey,

I posted on this topic yesterday (with a link to your earlier review of Isabella, actually) but not having seen the film, I can't fault your review of it.

I think Isabella's lack of obvious charisma is what works for her -- her performance in Isabella was quite natural and understated (making the Anita Mui tribute scene especially powerful when it happened).

I think she could have a future in Western art house-type films easily.

I am sad to see Jet Li doing this kind of stuff now, though.

What no one is asking is why Anthony Wong doesn't have a big career in the West? He has already shown that he can succeed in virtually any genre.
