It's easy to explain the fingernails. Triads own massage parlors, prostitution rings, etc. It'd be easy for a triad guy to get somebody to do his wife's nails.

Sigh, celebrity cousins - just what i needed to impress the relatives at the past New Year's. agree Nic is doing nicely for himself, though i couldn't ignore the nagging feeling his role's written as a weathered, at least 40-something squad veteran. in fact he's far more youthful than 90% of his team! it could be he's so friggin excellent, that he rose through the ranks at superhuman speed. logically this results in some complexes in his colleagues against his credentials, especially in seniority-driven culture. but nic just interpreted his role like an anti-young idol career transition, not the layered reality of what he owns, vs. role as written.

"A Terminator-like presence" indeed! Glad you liked the film despite the contrivances. I enjoyed this post but...you never even mentioned Zhang Jinchu! Even though she was in Protege and Seven Swords, I felt like I was seeing her for the first time here in a role that was alternately tough and vulnerable.

Speaking of your old site and Nic Tse: Cecilia Cheung gave a TV interview on the Edison scandal last night! I updated my week-old "rise-and-fall of Cecilia"-post which also mentioned your old site in it.

If Ceci comes back it may feel like 2002 all over again! Not sure if that's a *good* thing or not.
