I was sure a comeback for Gillian and Edison would be completely impossible but I may be wrong. I read an article comparing Edison comeback after a self-impose exile to Tang Wei. In my mind, being criticized for doing nude scenes in a movie is not the same as the world know you keep hundreds and hundreds of picture of you having sex with different actresses (am I the only one who think it's creepy?) ]]> By: mack http://www.lovehkfilm.com/blog/juiyinjong/2010/04/15/secrets-and-lies/#comment-88704 mack Sat, 17 Apr 2010 08:28:41 +0000 http://www.lovehkfilm.com/blog/juiyinjong/2010/04/15/secrets-and-lies/#comment-88704 as i read your well-thought out piece, sanney, i wondered why i didn't feel sorrier for RC & ah sa. they clearly make for more legitimate "martyrs" of their chosen work, if strict comparison is made to gillian. then i remembered over the years, they have rather, sometimes gleefully, fed the paps consistent lines about their "relationship" - always with such likable, inviting charisma as they went about their way, skillfully fending off the "intrusions" w/ new bits of info each time. we got periodic updates and "hints" about gifts passed between them, innuendos about their place in each other's lives up to the minutes. in short, they rather benefited from the constant media presence (especially during lulls of public interest in their respective careers, after spots of lackluster response to the latest release, etc.) by talking about their relation - even if one on the downlow. sure, they were weary about the paps after them at times, but at other instances they saw the benefit in keeping the conversation going - to keep grooming that planted media presence of "something between these two very good friends". overall, it's really a dirty game from which nobody comes out clean, unless very precise mandarin lines were set strictly from the beginning. compared to ah gil, they set up a screen door to keep mosquitoes from entering their home, but it's still a porous barrier allowing for constant airflow. this most unfortunate press conference on their separation, is rather an inevitable escalation of that two-way traffic they had some part in building -- getting the bitemarks and nasty itches when enough of them entered your home eventually. for these reasons, i offer a heavy sigh more than placing martyr's wreath on their heads:P as i read your well-thought out piece, sanney, i wondered why i didn’t feel sorrier for RC & ah sa. they clearly make for more legitimate “martyrs” of their chosen work, if strict comparison is made to gillian.
