Watched it again a few nights back. Am I the only one who thought that the choreography in the Ip Man/Mister Twister showdown was utter garbage. Did no one ever tell messrs. Hung and Shahlavi that there is a little bit more to "the sweet science" than just flailing around like a broken windmill? Why did the officials who forbade kicking allow eye gouging and striking Mister Twister while he was on the floor? It makes no sense.

i dont see the problem here. hollywood have been stereotyping asians in the cinema with chingchong waiters , geeks and so on for AGES. then along comes a big budget chinese movie and everyone starts calling white-bashing a 'trend'? its no biggie. china worships the west anyway, why not let this one slide? noone seemed to care when jet li did it in fearless or like as you say hong kong films tradition. also donnie yen is raised as an american so i think he knows what he is doing.have you simply looked at it as 'chinese kung fu is better than western boxing' without the whole racial overtone? surely thats something for the chinese to be proud of.noone won a cultural war by diluting their own power. and right now hollywood arent changing their tone about mr ching chong in the cinema with the red dawn remake and so forth so why not let china have its pride in the cinema. God knows that country has enough internal political environmental etc problems.

I hated the racism of Ip Man 2 too. And as a Chinese, what annoys me the most is how much it panders to our racial insecurity. Because we can be very insecure.

The portrait of Caucasian characters in the film is quite bad, and also quite dangerous. Audiences in both Hong Kong and China are eating it up, and with every other Chinese film now seem to be having the Japanese as villains of some kind (LEGEND OF THE FIST looks to be one long anti-Japanese propaganda film), the trend doesn't seem to be stopping.
