Here is a moment of a close encounter of the celebrity kind that happened to me on an autumn day about 4-5 years ago. I was descending on an escalator from the 2nd Floor of Borders Books on Union Square SF. Suddenly in my peripheral vision was George Lucas ascending on the elevator to my left. He was alone and dressed quite casually in shirt and jeans. I didn't just do a double take. I took a hard look once, twice, thrice, having completely turned around 180 degrees to stare by the time I was on the ground floor. By then I realized I was gawking but thankfully there were virtually no crowds and few store staff around. I momentarily felt an urge to either snap a picture or ask for an autograph but proper decorum won out over fan instincts.
