I guess all four of the great novels of China are known somewhat there because they’ve appeared in jpop culture in some form…dream of the red chamber had that porno anime video game or whatever it was.

I’m a little surprised myself, but apparently the Three Kingdoms story is fairly well-known in Japan (they did make those Dynasty Warriors games), and Avex put in a lot of promotion. Tony Leung and Takeshi Kaneshiro even went on Smap’s show together to promote it.

You gotta love all those judo fighters all surrounding him ready for their asses to be kicked. Ironically, the film’s composer is Japanese, which is apparently one way for Chinese film to get international cred.

saw a bit of a preview of ip man on tv - not really enthused. this story slanted towards the china war experience will win in china though. DONNNNIIEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Wow, at Red Cliff dominating like that. Very unexpected. Maybe I should actually watch this movie.It does have Takeshi Kaneshiro and Chang Chen after all.
