Review
by Kozo:
This Jingle Ma-produced crime thriller possesses his trademark glossy visuals and very little else. Marooned is an ultra-fluffy crime thriller that's so incredibly bland and inconsequential that it makes First Love Unlimited look like The English Patient. Andy Hui is a Macau cop who's forced to help a gangster to save his cousin, thus engendering all sorts of problems with the local gangsters and law enforcement. Gigi Leung is the long-suffering girlfriend who’s so cute and loveable that it threatens to destroy mankind. We are the audience, drawn into a film from the director of Sunshine Cops. An all-around snoozer, this movie could have used a dose of anything: sex, violence, humanity, hope, heartbreak, or even humor. Probably the most uninteresting movie of the year, and an unfortunate move for Gigi Leung, who has been showing true promise of late. Macau seems like a nice place to visit, though. (Kozo 2000)
