S.D.U. '97
Year: 1997
Director: Cho Wing
Cast: Hilary Tsui Ho-Ying, Edmond So Chi-Wai, James Wong Ka-Lok, Yu Rong-Guang, Law Kar-Ying, Joe Junior
The Skinny: Oh, this is a phenomenally bad movie. It looks like it cost 25 cents to make, but it's probably worth a lot less than that.
Review
by Kozo:
This wannabe actioner suffers from a plethora of lousy everything. It’s an SDU movie, but our stars get kicked out of the squad only twenty minutes into the picture. Then, they open a Karaoke bar. That's right: they secure a loan, get that liquor license, and set up the microphones and television screens so their customers can enjoy a fine evening of Karaoke. It's that kind of movie.
So Chi-Wai and Wong Ka-Nok are the main cops, with Joe Junior as their leader. Law Kar-Ying plays a wealthy man who uses the ex-cops to get back his kidnapped daughter. Hilary Tsui is on board as a Vietnamese girl that So Chi-Wai loves.
This movie is a total snoozer. I fell asleep twice trying to make it through this lame excuse for an action picture. I pity Hilary Tsui, an actress who’s capable of more but can’t seem to get a break. Also, Edmond So has some potential but he shows little here. Law Kar-Ying can be very good, but here he’s not. And the use of Stevie Wonder’s “I Just Called to Say I Love You” is criminally embarrassing. If you didn't hate the song before, you will now. Yu Rong-Guang is in this for just one minute! Probably the worst film of the year. (Kozo 1997)
