Review
by Kozo:
The first Erotic Ghost Story flick is a benchmark of the erotic comedy/whatever genre that packs so many houses in HK and keeps so many Chinatown theaters alive. Amy Yip is the primary spirit, but there are two others, all of which are seduced by Wu Tang (Tan Lap-Man), a horny fellow if ever there was one. He’s an evil devil who does the three spirits and ends up dooming their souls to a hairy demise. They must use sorcery and plot devices very similar to The Witches of Eastwick to exact their revenge and save their souls. Meanwhile, all clothing is mysteriously absent as a cloth embargo apparently is applied to Ancient China. Also, someone managed to bring masking tape to the past because it’s featured on Amy Yip’s breasts in place of nipples.
Ah, the wonders of HK smut. This film serves two purposes: it shows the folly of existence, and it provides a lot of bumping and grinding for the fans. Despite any thrashing I could apply to this movie, it’s quite popular with the hentai crowd that makes the Urotskidoji anime a cult phenomenon. With that in mind, the movie delivers the goods and then some. It’s actually amusing to see what excuses the filmmakers make to slap some skin on the screen. Give them credit for trying to muster a plot. (Kozo 1996)
