Cheap knock-off of The Fugitive from obvious Filipino
investors stars Yuen Biao as a security guard who’s framed
for murder and escapes to clear his name. Zhang Feng-Yi of Farewell My Concubine slums as the cop chasing him
down. This is an average production with simply awful Filipino
lead actors in addition to Yuen Biao and Zhang Feng-Yi, who
deserves better than stuff like this. Jessica Suen is on board
                    as Yuen’s ex-wife.
Some stunts are good, but there are
some obvious stunt doubles and safety measures that give this
film the “shot in four days” look. Note to filmmakers: when
staging jumps from rooftop to rooftop, make sure to hide the
safety mats. Also, the film has the worst dubbing ever, and
some nonsensical scenes to boot. They have a translator between
the Chinese and Filipinos to facilitate communication, but
later everyone starts speaking Cantonese. How? On a positive
note, the Crazy Mustache Guy (Chung Fat) from Yes, Madam! returns. We applaud his longevity. (Kozo 1997) |
