Joey Wang Still Has A Full Head Of Hair

A groundswell of reader interest (two e-mails! + one blog comment!) prompts tonight’s blog post …

Hong Kong nation was abuzz earlier this week when rumours emerged on July 6th suggesting that Joey Wang (aka Joey Wong Tso-Yi) had become a Buddhist nun.  Supposedly, Wang entered a Buddhist temple in the Vancouver area and had her head shaved because she had become distraught upon hearing rumours that her old flame Chyi Chin (齊秦) was about to marry model/actress Stephanie Siao (蕭薔).

As he was at the root of the rumour, Chyi Chin reportedly began frantic attempts to contact Wang to confirm the reports.  While Chin was unable to talk with Wang herself, he was able to reach Wang’s uncle who assured Chin that the rumours were false.  Speaking to the press on July 8th, Chin told reporters that Joey Wang wrote “there is no such thing” when she and her uncle exchanged text messages about the matter.  Further, Wang’s uncle told Chin that the talk probably started because Wang joked with her friends recently about becoming a Buddhist nun.

READERS, I CANNOT TELL A LIE …:

I’ve had to retire the “Because I’m Not On Twitter” sections of this blog because I’m actually now on Twitter.  Don’t expect too much over there, I only joined to follow the Twitter feeds of the guys at PTI and The Sports Guy Bill Simmons.  I didn’t realize until after I joined that I could actually follow them WITHOUT joining.  Then, I started getting notices that people were following me on Twitter so I started feeling compelled to tweet.  I think this is how people get sucked into quagmires.  They all start off with simple aspirations that get increasingly complicated.  You know, you start off just wanting to get your Dad’s approval, then that leads you to ignore the findings of the CIA, which leads you to invent an excuse to invade Iraq, which leads to …

It’s like the old woman who swallowed a fly, she had to swallow a spider to catch the fly, then she had to swallow a bird to catch the spider, then she swallowed a cat to catch the bird … what happened to her in the end?  Oh that’s right, she died …

Jo Koo in THE VAMPIRE WHO ADMIRES ME
Here’s a picture of Jo Koo in a tank top to distract you from today’s grim blog post.

Sorry to start off this post on such a grim note but it seems we’ve been surrounded by death of late.  From Shih Kien to David Carradine to Michael Jackson to Alexis Arguello to that Nanjing drunk driving accident last week to Steve McNair killed in a murder-suicide on the weekend to the riots in Xinjiang.

Speaking of the riots, I wonder if the Kozo Entertainment Group’s health plan covers treatment for post traumatic stress disorder because I think I may be getting PTSD from looking at the Chinese media coverage of the Nanjing drunk driving accident and the Xinjiang riots.  Unlike the Western media, the Chinese media and news blogs have no compunction about showing graphic images with nary a warning.  As a result, I saw some things in the past few days that I won’t be able to scrub from my mind any time soon.

When I had my own site a few years back, I caught a lot of heat for posting a link to a picture of Leslie Cheung’s body covered by a sheet next to a pool of blood.  It was, admittedly, a mistake.  I think this was karma’s way of getting back at me for it.  The pictures of the Nanjing accident were especially grisly — the twisted, mangled corpses, the disemboweled pregnant lady … I initially thought some of those pictures were of the remnants of the smashed watermelon stand … if only …  I’m normally not a proponent of capital punishment but, in this case, not only should this scumbag be shot, his next three incarnations should be summarily executed as well.

Ah well, that’s the price you have to pay when you’re scouring the Internet for news links.  Sometimes curiosity gets the better of you and you click on a link you probably shouldn’t click on.

If only I was involved with a hot starlet who allowed me opportunities to hang around and eat roast pork with the likes of Dante Lam, Michelle Ye, Richie Ren and Leon Lai

Uh, oh.  Manny Kok — my Kozo Entertainment Group handler, uh, manager — is giving me the evil eye.  I better shut up.  Don’t want to get “frozen”.  :-)

Anyway, my point is that because I’m now on Twitter, I can no longer use “Because I’m Not On Twitter”.  I’m changing it to “Sesame Seeds and Mung Beans” after the Chinese phrase “芝麻綠豆小事” or “small, inconsequential matters/things like sesame seeds and mung beans”.

The latest edition of “Sesame Seeds and Mung Beans” appears after the news links update which begins with …

About Gillian, On HKSAR’s 12th Birthday

I know I’m a few minutes late — I got home after midnight because the holiday fireworks show was scheduled to start at 10:15 pm but didn’t get going until just before 11 pm.  Be that as it may, Happy Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Establishment Day everybody!

And to my fellow Canadians, Happy Canada Day!

A news post featuring Gillian Chung today starting with this link:

Gillian Chung Returns to Work with Pride

* * * * *

Gillian Chung is returning to the stage just not for a concert series at the Hong Kong Coliseum.  At a press conference on June 23rd, it was announced that EEG is producing a run of the award-winning Neil Simon stage play I OUGHT TO BE IN PICTURES.  The play tells the story of an aspiring actress who re-unites with the screenwriter father who abandoned her sixteen years ago.  Chung will play the aspiring actress while veteran stage actor Chan Suk-Yi plays the father.  Veteran stage actress Siu Mei-Kwan (you may remember her from an appearance in SIMPLY ACTORS) plays the father’s love interest.

Chung, who has never done live theatre, told reporters that she is feeling an immense amount of pressure because her part is thick with lines and the nature of a live show means an actor cannot make mistakes.

On the other hand, she revealed that she is looking forward to working with two veteran actors whom she has long admired because she can learn from them.

The rest of the article contains that nonsense about the botox injections to her “elephant legs”.

EEG, sadly, is not paying me to post the last link.  I’m doing it for the benefit of faithful reader Glenn who is making a trip to HK in August.  I’m sure he wants the opportunity to have some, uh, pictures taken with Ah Gil. :-)

SEXY PHOTOS GATE UPDATE:

Bobo Chan emerges from the dark

To me, Bobo Chan is the biggest victim of this mess.  She wasn’t even in the entertainment circle when the scandal hit.  She parlayed her fame into an engagement with a rich dude but lost it because of the pictures and is now a nail salon owner.  Not that there’s anything wrong with being a nail salon owner but if you had to choose between small business owner and rich dude’s wife, wouldn’t you pick rich dude’s wife?

AROUND TOWN:

Athena Chu, Gigi Leung Wing-Kei and Rain Li Choi-Wah

Chu, Leung and Li join William So Wing-Hong and Ella Koon at the Dragon Bowling centre for a charity bowling event for the Yan Oi Tong charity fund.

Sorry, I’m not going into this article any further because it hurts too much, too damn much, for me to read about Athena Chu ever since she eschewed my love, MY LOVE, for that rapscallion Paul Wong.  What does he have that I don’t have?  Talent, pffft.  Fame, pschaw.  A celebrated career, hrmpph.  I could understand when she spurned me for Stephen Chow but Paul Wong?  Paul freakin’ Wong?

EDITORIAL NOTE FROM SANNEY’S KOZO ENTERTAINMENT GROUP MANAGER MANNY KOK:  To the legal representatives of Paul Wong and Athena Chu, I’m confident that Mr. Leung is merely being facetious for humourous affect.  Quite simply, he thinks he’s being funny.  No need to initiate proceedings for a restraining order.  Then again, Mr. Leung does have that shrine to Ms. Chu in his bedroom.

EDITORIAL RESPONSE FROM SANNEY: Uh, that’s a shrine to the Greek Goddess Athena.  Yeah … that’s right … the Greek Goddess Athena.  And what the hell were YOU doing in my bedroom Manny?
